Self-Hosting and Risk Assessment Someone reached out to me to get advices on the best password manager out there. From their perspective, the two options that were competing against each other were Bitwarden and Keeweb. As such, the solution would be self hosted. This sparked an interesting discussion that I wanted to translate to a blog post. A password manager is very important, it holds the secrets to your accounts and maybe some other information as well.

The case against Signal With WhatsApp changing its privacy policy, Signal has been getting a lot of attention over the past few days. While a lot of praise has been given to the project, a lot of critiques emerged as well. I wanted to review some of the arguments that were mentioned and explain why, to me, these arguments were not enough to discard Signal as an option. First, let’s have a look at the mission of the Signal Foundation:

WhatsApp: what now? WhatsApp started giving an ultimatum to its users: accept that your data is shared with facebook or stop using the app. Having that in mind, what are the alternatives knowing that WhatsApp is ubiquitous, especially in Europe. I’m completely sold to Signal myself but as I discuss the matter with my friends and family, I need to repeat arguments pro and against other platforms. Before going further, I know that this topic can trigger wars as everyone wants to preach for their church.
